Chimney Sweeping
The cost of chimney sweeping is charged per appliance. Each chimney, wood stove, pellet stove, furnace, water heater, etc. counts as one appliance. A discount may be available for service of multiple appliances on the same roof. Standard chimney sweeping does not guarantee the removal of creosote, obstructions, bends or other obstacles in the chimney. If an obstruction is found, the customer will be notified and options can be discussed. The standard rate starts at $250 + $100/hr for each additional hour needed to remove the obstruction.
TNC assumes no responsibility for personal or property damage caused by smoke or fumes from wood, pellets, oil or gas. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to ensure proper operation and draft before using the appliance. The chimney sweep must be paid on the same day as the work performed, unless otherwise agreed.
Animals
TNC does not guarantee that we will remove an animal if it is found in the chimney. We leave it up to the customer to contact an animal removal specialist to remove live animals. We are not responsible for any damage caused by animals if they enter the home. A standard fee of $250 is charged for the removal of a dead animal, in addition to the standard chimney sweeping fee.
Inspection
The assessment is based on a visual inspection of the chimney and its components. We are not responsible for hidden or unseen defects. An additional charge is added if a camera inspection is required or if an invasive inspection is needed, options can be discussed. W.E.T.T. certified inspections are available upon request, the cost starts at $350 per unit.
Liner
Stainless steel liner installations are covered by the manufacturer’s limited lifetime parts warranty. Annual inspection and/or maintenance by TNC is required to maintain the warranty. TNC reserves the right to void the liner warranty in the event of improper use, damage, alteration or excessive creosote build-up.
Quote
Quotations are valid for 30 days.
TNC reserves the right to revoke this quote and/or refuse to perform the work described in the quote.
TNC reserves the right to refuse the above quote if it is determined by local authorities or regulations that TNC is not qualified to perform the contract.
It is the responsibility of the homeowner to ensure that all local permits and regulations are met. If TNC is required to stop work due to an authority or agency requiring us to stop work on the premises, TNC will invoke a termination for convenience clause: TNC will be paid based on the amount of work performed and will have no further involvement in the project.
The repair estimate is based on a visual assessment. If hidden problems or unforeseen additional work is discovered, the client will be informed of the additional repairs required and options for price adjustment must be agreed upon verbally or in writing before proceeding. If TNC believes the work is unsafe or non-regulatory due to hidden defects, TNC will invoke a termination for convenience clause and will be paid on the basis of work performed to that point.
Safety
We reserve the right to cancel the contract and refuse work if TNC feels that the work site, roof access or chimney is unsafe.
Heights
Our prices are based on chimneys accessible by a 30-foot ladder. Additional charges of $100 or more will be applied if a longer ladder, multiple ladders, roof jacks, hydraulic elevators, or machine rentals are required. TNC does not guarantee that we will be able to reach the top of the chimney. Any additional costs for a long ladder or elevator, etc. must be paid regardless of the situation.
If a crane or elevator is deemed necessary, all costs are the responsibility of the customer. TNC is not responsible for any delays related to the rental of equipment. We are not responsible for damage to turf, plants or landscaping caused by lifting equipment.
Payment
A deposit of $200 or 30% is required upon confirmation of work.
Once the work is completed, the client must pay the balance within 10 days. Payment should be made payable to True North Chimneys Inc. The customer has the right to withhold a portion of the payment for any work not completed. The amount to be withheld is proportional to the amount of work not yet completed. A 10% late fee will be added to outstanding payments unless otherwise confirmed. Chimney sweeping is to be paid for on the day the work was performed, unless otherwise agreed.
Chimney caps
New stainless steel chimney caps carry the manufacturer’s parts warranty. New chimney caps purchased from TNC are guaranteed for installation up to 80.47 km/h of wind gusts. Installation is not guaranteed if the clay flue tile is damaged. We are not responsible for personal or property damage due to the cap falling off. We are not responsible for a cap that was not purchased new from TNC.
Metal Crowns
Custom metal crowns installed by TNC are guaranteed for 10 years. The crown is not guaranteed to stop leaks or water infiltration. The metal crown is installed on the existing crown structure, unless otherwise specified by TNC. The crown is not guaranteed to be centered or level.
Masonry
New masonry work is guaranteed to be free of defects for 5 years. This warranty is voided if water periodically comes in contact with the masonry repairs. In the case of inadequate or missing flashing or crown, no warranty is given. Resurfacing of damaged brick faces and plastering are not warranted.
Dust
All windows must be closed during the repair work. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to move and protect the barbecue, patio furniture, toys, etc. that may be affected by dust and debris.
